Between 1937 and 2004, the Social Security Administration sent about $586 billion into a special fund for tax filers whose names and numbers don't match. By law, the agency must hold the money in case a match is made, but interest earned on the account goes into the general budget. Some of the mismatches happen because of a name change or a typographical error. Others happen because people are working illegally. About a fifth of the money in the fund was collected in 2003 and 2004 alone -- a sign that immigrants are illegally using Social Security numbers to gain employment, the inspector general's office reported to Congress in June 2007. For the purpose of estimating how many illegal immigrant workers, had jobs that required a SS number, so that they contributed to Social Security, let's say the 1/5 of the money contributed in 2003 and 2004 amounted to 110 billion of the 586 billion dollar fund. Let's also assume that all of this money was contributed by illegal immigrants using illegal SS numbers. Let's also say that 55 billion was contributed in each of the 2003, and 2004, years. The Social Security tax rate is 6.2%. Since this is a very rough calculation, let's say that 55 billion paid in SS taxes, amounts to 1/16 of the taxed earnings, making the total taxed earnings 880 billion dollars. If we used $10 an hour, which is probably high, then this amounts to 88 billion hours. A fulltime employee works 2080 hours a year (52 weeks X 40 hours a week). Let's say our average illegal immigrant employee worked 2,080 hours a year; then the 88 billion hours equals 42.3 million employees. We can rightfully assume, that most of the illegals working jobs that require a SS number, have been in the country longer; we could also easily assume that their average wage, of these illegal immigrants, is $15 an hour; then the total contributed SS taxes/earnings would be for 28.2 million illegal immigrants, which begins to sound more realistic. At $20 an hour, it's 21.2 million illegal immigrants. This only helps to confirm that there are far more than 12 million illegal immigrants in our United States, because we know that about 1/2 of illegal immigrants work for cash, and pay no SS taxes, let alone payroll taxes. So, the question remains:? HOW MANY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE REALLY IN OUR UNITED STATES, ILLEGALLY TAKING JOBS THAT RIGHTFULLY BELONG TO AMERICAN WORKERS??
