Dear Concerned Citizen, The laws are not broken. They are being broken by illegal aliens and complicit Americans and leaders acting in rebellion to the laws of the United States. It is already illegal to give food stamps or welfare to any illegal alien. It is illegal for most legal immigrants to receive either, also. I've read these provisions in our current immigration law. I guess some Congressmen are simply unaware of laws already on the books. Did you know it is currently an offense with a $5,000 fine and up to one year in jail for entering the United States illegally, bypassing border patrol or custom agents? A second offense holds a $10,000 fine, but these laws aren't being enforced. Did you know that those transporting illegal aliens into the country are committing a felony with the same penalty provisions as drug lords who have vehicles or houses confiscated by the federal authorities? These provisions are not being used. Why is that? Our current leadership in Washington is forbidding or discouraging the enforcement of these particular immigration laws. Did you know it is a felony for a food stamp employee to knowingly give aid to illegal aliens? Governor Ernie Fletcher promised over the radio to stop welfare and food stamps going to illegals. We must hold him to his promise! What does it say about our local police department when they admit to letting undocumented aliens go without checking their background or anything after being pulled over for a traffic violation? Their hands have been tied by their supervising authorities, mainly their police chief and mayor. I believe most of them want to do something. Our leaders are failing to enforce the laws and to do whatever they can to protect the citizens of Lexington and the Commonwealth. What can we do about it? We can help persuaded them to act. Come join those of us attempting to do just that at a rally this Saturday from 5 to 6 pm in front of the Lexington Fayette County Government center on Main St. Bring your bullhorns, your signs, and your desire to change the status quo! We citizens need to realize that it is no longer a time to "trust" the authorities you've elected to act. A deeper commitment and involvement in our local politics is needed. Today, our safety and our children's safety is at stake. Many of our jobs are being taken by undocumented workers. Law breaking businesses and citizens willing to hire companies with illegal aliens or directly hire illegal alien workers or contractors are helping put a great number of law abiding contractors and thousands of their employees out of business to save themselves money. Then there are landlords by the thousands perfectly willing to house the illegal population even though it is a federal crime to do so. Enforcement is so low or non-existent, that they have no worries. Meanwhile, local officials who regulate the housing business look the other way, while undocumented felons and terrorists live quietly in the shadows among the less harmful aliens, undetected, unscreened, fugitives and gang bangers. But even those "less harmful" aliens freely take from our hospitals and schools, taking advantage of stupid judge rulings undermining our laws and safety. They use our roads, our water supply, our sewer, our garbage service, our schools, our medical services, volunteer legal services, while skirting the laws of the United States, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and Fayette County. Their is no doubt that their money is taxed by the government, just as ours is in so many ways. They pay tax through their landlords, their utility bills, their cell phone bills, their gas, and their goods purchased. Some are even paying into a Social Security System and have Local, State and Federal money withheld. They have no right to receive Social Security according to the law as I've read it. (Actually, they have no obligation to pay into it - check the law, but the complicit feds won't tell anybody that or they might lose that income.) But just as they are ignorant of our laws except we educate and enforce them, so are they being taken advantage of by less ignorant and deceptive employers and government officials willing to use and abuse them, knowing they won't complain lest they be reported and deported by an "unknown" source. Local governments make short term profits from forced license taxes for their cars, but don't check their legal status, even though they know tens of thousands of illegals live among us without legal driver's license or insurance. How does that work? Are false insurance documents being presented or are insurance companies perfectly willing to insure drivers without valid driver's license? I don't understand this. If I get too many tickets I can lose my license, but illegals don't even have a license! Can anyone explain this to me? How can we allow such a large number of undocumented people to drive our streets every day without proper i.d., insurance, or having passed our driver's test to receive a license? Whatever happened to the "War on terror?" Doesn't anyone see the link to undocumented aliens and terrorists? Am I the only one with a clue about this? Of course I'm not, but where is the outrage? Where are the people demanding that their safety be insured? Somehow it's okay to wiretap or take phone records of U.S. Citizens, but not demand to see the legal documentation of millions of illegal aliens? Is it just me? AM I LIVING IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE? I don't think so, but I am living in a land with a certain level of public apathy. Americans, it's one thing to just want to get along and be kind to your neighbor, but it requires a deeper concern, a greater love to care about your community and your nation. It requires participation. We have no trouble extolling the members of our Armed Forces, fighting to keep us free, but we civilians have an obligation also to keep this country free. It requires commitment. To some it means to pray, for others, to write letters, for others, to call their councilman or woman, for others to talk with their neighbor, to keep an eye out for illegal activities. To record or take pictures or video of suspicious happenings where you live. Then, to let local authorities know what is happening, presenting your evidence. Their hands are tied without your help and participation. We can't expect the police to do what only a citizen in that neighborhood can do: take notes and pictures of what is happening around you. Document the overcrowding of a local apartment house or rental property. Keep records, then let Code Enforcement know, showing them the evidence. Record the bus coming from Mexico as it stops in Gardenside with your video camera or digital camera. Most cameras have video built in, too. Show suspicious behavior to the authorities. Go beyond just a phone call. Do your own research. Help them so they can help you! Folks, I used to think somebody else had to do all these things. It wasn't my job. But I see my beloved country slipping away, falling more and more into a lawless, rebellious condition: not the people, as much as the leaders! But unless civilians get involved, this battle, this invasion of our Homeland will be won by invaders who don't really have a clue about what America is and will replace our laws with selfish, pragmatic, and rebellious views, destroying what this country once was. While we focus on a war ten thousand miles away, the battle for America is being waged right here, right now. Will you join the fray and fight with peaceful means to overcome this invader? For all those of you who want to help, write me with your specific ideas of what can be done by individuals in our community. I'll put them on our "What Can I Do" page (this page is currently being rebuilt, please be patient). Tell KFIRE about a specific problem in your area and we'll see what can be done to help you! Then let's do it! A concerned citizen, Douglas Roy |
