Governor Fletcher's Limited Efforts Folks, I'm concerned that the Governor's "tough" stand on immigration is little more than a ploy to gain votes from the anti-illegal immigration lobby just weeks before the election…that's us and people like us across the state. Am I happy that the Governor is planning to use (if it actually gets implemented) this small portion of 287(g) in state detention centers? Of course I am, but this is far from a "tough" policy on immigration. In fact, it is barely a minimal policy considering the gravity of the issue. The Governor's move to limit accessibility of illegal immigrants to food stamps is simply part of enforcing the law as it was written. Illegal immigrants have never been eligible for food stamps, according to the law. The fact that two illegal immigrants can have a baby within the U.S. and then be eligible is reprehensible. Do people think only the baby will receive food? Of course not! Kentucky voters should not applaud this baby step of the Governor as a great thing. It is far too little to have much of an affect. It will serve to deport more illegal immigrant felons, but have no effect on the population growth of illegal aliens within our communities. There is evidence that many such felons return to the United States. When the police do not have 287(g) training, how will they spot these returning felons if they come from a different state? How will this have any effect on spotting terrorists among the populace? How will they find illegal alien ex cons and felons from other countries and other states? And how will any of this actually decrease the influx of illegal aliens? We are still a state protecting illegal aliens! There is no doubt about it, people. Aliens fleeing other states that have enacted real laws to discourage all illegal aliens from staying within their borders will come to Kentucky. Until our state acts forcefully to American lawbreakers profiteering and supporting these rebel invaders, the population growth will continue and state and local coffers will continue to give out more than they take in from these people, and our security in the Commonwealth of Kentucky will stay at a low ebb. Please call or write the Governor and tell him you want and expect more if he is to get your vote. http://governor.ky.gov/contact.htm |
