The
Costs of IIlegal Immigration Costs
By State Representative Russell Pearce
Illegal
immigration cost Arizona taxpayers over $2 billion
annually. That does not take into account the crime
and destruction and the anti-American sentiment. Those
good people that come here are displacing American
workers. Over 8 million Americans out of work.
Rarely in our
state's history has there been such an enormous gulf
between the vast majority of Arizona citizens, and the
political, academic, and journalistic upper class that
arrogantly tells the rest of us how to think and vote.
Proposition 200, an anti-fraud initiative, is the biggest issue facing voters. Are we going to stand up for the rule of law? Are we going to require the laws be enforced? While politicians refuse to listen, you, the voter, will make that decision on Nov. 2nd. While the governor panders to illegal aliens (political power) and the other side tries to protect cheap labor by allowing them to get taxpayer benefits (welfare), they pay cheap wages under the table and compete illegally and unfairly against the honest business person. Wow, imagine that we actually expect "only citizens" to vote and actually be "eligible" to get unearned taxpayer benefits. Some of us truly believe that these are worth protecting. This initiative started in my office when the governor of this state vetoed a very simple bill that required ID when one goes to the polls to vote. She did this while pandering before LULAC (a Latino organization) and tried to make it a racial issue. This is about the integrity of our elections and about fraud of our welfare dollars. Why is that so hard to understand? Apparently someone is benefiting by not enforcing our laws? It certainly is not the taxpayer or citizens that bear the brunt of this invasion and blatant violation of our laws. This initiative requires everyone to honor the law "equally" and does not discriminate, as the pro-fraud/pro-illegal alien crowd would have one ignorantly believe. This initiative is about the "Rule of Law" and standing firm on principles of protecting our elections and the taxpayer. This invasion is destroying America. This initiative only deals with elections and those actively seeking taxpayer dollars in the way of Welfare. Read the initiative. In the debate over Proposition 200, known as the Protect Arizona Now initiative, elitist editorial boards, pompous professors and left-leaning liberals are mounting a final, and futile fight against a common sense measure that is supported by nearly three out of four voters. The newspapers and op-ed pages have been filled with their condescending criticism, which Arizona voters are stubbornly and rightly rejecting. While the elitists complain that Prop. 200 might (gasp!) offend some illegal immigrants or cause divisions, 74 percent of Arizonans understand that the only division Prop 200 will cause is the one between lawbreakers and law-keepers. These voters know that Prop 200 is a simple, prudent measure that targets welfare and voting fraud. They know that Prop 200 won't deny services to those who are legally entitled to them -- only those who are circumventing the law will be affected. And imagine we would expect paid state employees to do their job when they come across fraud and actually want them to report it. Wow, what is this world coming to? The vast majority of voters who support this initiative understand what the limousine liberals can't seem to comprehend: that Arizonans are sick and tired of non-citizens taking advantage of generous welfare benefits that were intended for legal residents. Arizonans have always been willing to help those in need, passing initiatives and laws that, in my opinion, go far beyond government's role. But on one point Arizonans have consistently stood firm: that the rule of law should be upheld, and that it is not fair for lawbreaking non-citizens to reap the benefits of citizenship at the expense of law-abiding taxpayers. This is the crucial point. In a last, misguided effort to confuse voters and muddle the issue, Governor Napolitano issued a memo to her agency heads ordering them to "determine the costs" of implementing Proposition 200. The results were predictable: Napolitano's political appointees issued ridiculous reports clearly designed to scare taxpayers. These people ignored the "real" cost to taxpayers of more than $2 billion per year to Arizona taxpayers for illegal aliens -- not to mention an increase in violent crime (45 percent of homicides involve illegals, 80 percent of the violent crime in Phoenix and Mesa, home invasions, auto theft, gang and drug activity, the destruction of our neighborhoods). What is the real cost of illegals? According to the governor, we should do nothing. Well I am not one to sit here and watch America be destroyed by politicians that do nothing but pander to those who benefit from this illegal invasion while the taxpayer picks up the tab, economically, socially and personally. Enough is enough. The predetermined nature of this outcome was clear from the language of the memo, which instructs agency heads to define "public benefit," "in its broadest sense." Executive administrators know full well that the term applies to welfare benefits. What Napolitano doesn't want you to know is that independent analyses have estimated Arizona could save as much as $2 billion per year in welfare expenses if PAN is passed. While her appointees insist there is no evidence of welfare fraud and ignore the obvious, the governor continues to refuse to fully disclose her agencies' budgets, including federal expenditures. It's time for Governor Napolitano and the elitists who support her to join with the millions of Arizonans who support the effort to Protect Arizona Now. Before it's too late. |
